Ms. Tanaka is Bachelar 4 th year student of our lab. She has worked on the following research topic, which has been recognized by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI).
The Nijo district in Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture, has historically experienced frequent disasters of various scales. However, much of the information regarding these disasters has been recorded on paper, making it exceedingly difficult to investigate past events from multiple sources. To address this issue and enhance local disaster awareness in the Nijo district, she undertook the task of collating and summarizing information on past disasters in order to create a media resource that could be utilized for disaster education. To achieve this objective, she conducted a survey using the “Hikari-takubon technique” on a stone monument located at the confluence of the Fukuyoshi River and Higashi River, as noted in the local town history, and subsequently registered it as a Natural Disaster Monument with the GSI.
Additionally, she investigated disaster maps stored at the Tsunami Historical Research Center in Nagasaki Prefecture, using relevant historical documents to identify the specific disasters to which these maps pertain.
